Huffer, out of Auckland since 1997
Huffer started in Auckland in 1997 and has spent nearly thirty years making gear that gets worn rather than looked at. It is one of the largest ranges we carry, across men's and women's, and one of the few labels where the outerwear and the tees are both worth buying.
The Down jacket
The Huffer Down is the piece the label is known for. Real down fill, cut to layer under nothing and over everything, and warm well past the point most New Zealand winters require. If you are buying one thing from Huffer, buy this.
Sizing on the Down runs close to true. If you plan to wear a thick knit underneath, size up once and no further.
Technical merino
Huffer's merino sits in the range that wears next to skin without itch. It regulates temperature, resists smell through multiple wears and packs down small, which is why it ends up in a bag for tramping and travel as often as it ends up under a coat.
Hoods, tees and the rest
Heavyweight hoods that keep their shape, graphic and plain tees, sweats, pants and caps. The tees are heavier cotton than most streetwear at the price, which is the reason they last.
The women's range runs through dresses, tees and knitwear as well, including the Bella tee dress and the Cruise Indie maxi.
Care
Wash the merino cold on a wool cycle and dry flat. Down jackets can be machine washed on cold with a down specific wash, then tumbled low with two or three dryer balls to break the clumps back up. Do not dry clean down.
